The 2nd leg between Panathinaikos and CSKA Sofia was played on Sep 27, 1972 with a Panathinaikos win by 2-1, followed by penalty shoot-out. The referee ended penalty shoot-out when score was 3-2 to CSKA, however Panathinaikos still could level it. Panathinaikos filed a complaint and UEFA decided the match should be replayed.
